They all soon discover the students still don't accept Stargirl completely. Most of his books tell the feelings and events from his childhood and also gets many ideas to put down in writing from his seven adorable kids.
She can't escape the label. The story starts with Leo Borlock, who moved to Mica, Arizona at the age of twelve. Her antics get her so much attention she is invited to become a cheerleader. New in town, homeschooled, and feeling rejected by Leo, the year-old narrator of the first book who had fallen under her spell, she is lonely and sad -- her "happy wagon," where she keeps stones representing her level of happiness, is almost empty.

At that point her popularity becomes the talk of the school. She struggles to come to grips about her feelings for Perry, but also to figure out the truth behind his tough exterior. No one knows what happened to Wayne Parr.

No one in the town sees Stargirl again after that night, and Leo learns that she and her family have moved away. At the end, he reveals that he has received a porcupine necktie in the mail one day before his most recent birthday—presumably from Stargirl.
While all this is happening Leo and Stargirl continue falling in love. Others are intrigued with Stargirl and watch for and expect her weird but entertaining behavior. Leo and Kevin best friends are fascinated with this new girl. Still, there are rumblings of discontent in school with Stargirl.
Spinelli's writing throughout the story is perfect. It is clear that Stargirl has made a strong positive impression on the neighborhood and everyone clamors to show her how much they appreciate her individuality.
